“We were very poor and my father did all he could for my siblings and I. There were 5 of us and things were so bad we had to share the most basic things like shoes and even underwear. Things were particularly worse for me because I was the only boy. My parents couldn’t afford to buy us clothes every year and I remember the humiliation of having to wear my sisters’ pink underwear all throughout my teens.”
Dr. Ming added that China’s strict population control measures forced poverty-stricken Chinese citizens to improvise due to a lack of government provided condoms.
“Not enough condoms were provided causing the poor people to be forced to buy condoms from the merchants. Things were so bad that the men would take much care when using the condoms as they would often have to use the same condoms repeatedly. Some local stores would even rent used condoms at a cheaper price. I clearly recall my father lending my uncle his condom and vice versa on many occasions, sometimes on the same day. When I became of age, my father actually gave me his condom in what was one of the more memorable moments of my life. I still keep this condom in order to remind myself of my humble beginnings.”
"I put the mix on an old toothbrush I had found and gave it to my sister. My sister immediately started brushing and that’s when the miracle was discovered. Her teeth were amazingly immediately white after the first brushing. The contrast was striking because, like most Chinese from the mainland, my sister had teeth of a grayish to dark brown color with several cavities. She also had terrible breath.”
Dr. Ming began to ponder toothpaste alternatives after having been robbed of it in a vicious mugging by three teens.
“It was during this time that I made, what I consider, the greatest teeth whitening discovery in the last 50 years. It all happened on my younger sister’s 14th birthday. I was 21 at the time and had just started medical school. On my way home from school, I bought her some toothpaste for her birthday but was assaulted by three teenagers and the toothpaste was stolen from me. When I arrived home, my little sister was there waiting for the toothpaste and I didn’t want to break her heart.”
Dr. Ming credits his medical school and traditional Chinese medicine for leading him to discover the recipe for sperm based toothpaste.
“In class that day the teacher had been instructing us regarding the benefits of sperm and it gave me an idea. I went to my father’s room and saw his condom hanging there with a little bit of sperm in it. I emptied the sperm into a bowl and mixed it with a little bit of ginseng extract with sugar until it was pleasant to the taste. "
